The Allegory of Long Spoons

The Allegory of Long Spoons

You know the’ long spoons’ story. It’s used primarily to teach the difference between heaven and hell. I think that’s a tragic simplification. Although it provides this accepted comparison, we completely miss its lesson about living here and now. This viewpoint literally means “Feed each other!”

With that in mind, I read that 500 tons of food (already paid for and waiting to be shipped) have been or are at least destined to be destroyed by fire. I’m informed that these stockpiles have been sitting in a Dubai warehouse for months due to the early 2025 decision to dismantle USAID. An additional $130,000 will be spent to carry out this task. This supply of high-energy biscuits was earmarked to feed 1.5 million starving children.

So, our taxes were used to spend nearly one million dollars to incinerate life-sustaining food for hungry kids.

Our great country did not give them long spoons.

We gave them empty bowls!

How is this, Christian? How is this even HUMAN?

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Matthew 25:35,36

John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” Luke 3:11

Might it be possible that we are headed in the wrong direction?

The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. John 10:10
